Faust: I’m so proud that we were the first to organize the first speech that you ever gave.

 

Woes: Yeah! And I remember it very fondly. I mean, I was nervous at the time. But I do remember it very fondly, because it was a nice dark room with a screen with my logo on it, and it looked really nice. And it was a just a great bunch of guys. It was a lovely atmosphere. But yeah, I was very nervous. But it seemed to go well.

But first I have back with me a guest who was very popular last year from Ireland. And it is the columnist John Waters. For anyone who’s not, … Welcome back to Millenniyule, John.

 

John Waters: Thank you very much.

 

Woes: And for anyone who’s not familiar with you just briefly introduce yourself.

 

John Waters: Well I’m not really a columnist anymore. But I used to be. I was for many years. I was with the Irish Times, I was with all kinds of Irish newspapers. I started off in music journalism and Hot Press, an Irish music magazine [word unclear] many years ago. And been in various things mainstream, until about five, six, years ago.

 

And then I turned my back on the mainstream. It began to grow very, very seedy and nasty. And just in time! I mean, I kind of got out before things really got horrific, as they have now.

 

And so I’ve written 10 books, mainly about Ireland, about Irish cultural and political and spiritual life. That kind of stuff. Some of the biographic elements in parts.

 

And currently you can get me on Substack. I’ve been on Substack for the last year and a half, or so. John Waters on Change, JohnWaters.substack.com I do stuff there, which is kind of what I do generally about all of these things; culture, spirituality, religion, music, you know whatever.

 

But I mean, the last year, of course, the last two years has been kind of Covid all the way. So most of the stuff on there is somewhat Covid related. And probably will be for the rest of my life [chuckling]!

So Mark would you like to introduce yourself, and just describe yourself for the audience?

 

Mark Gullick: Certainly! My name’s Mark Gullick. As you can see. I’m 60. Originally from London in England. I say London, England, because apparently there are about seven London’s in the USA. So and there are a lot of Americans down here where I am, which is Costa Rica, when I relocated almost six years ago.

 

I really came over here for a break, and just kept staying, and kept staying. Was intending to go back at some stage. And then the whole Covid thing sprang up almost two years ago, I guess, now.

 

And having watched the appalling things that are happening in, well across Europe, and the Commonwealth, and England, now it seems. As well, what Britain, I suppose the UK, I should say. I’ve just decided to stay put here, because as I speak there are, …

 

The only thing I have to do here in terms of Covid, is wear a mask when I go to a store, or get on a bus. That’s it. There’s no vaccine mandates. There’s nothing. There’s been no lockdown. It’s comparatively free and easy. And yet has the lowest infection rate in the Americas. So they’re doing it right, whatever they’re doing.

 

Personally, I’ve got a Phd, well three degrees. And all in philosophy. All from the University of Sussex. And yeah that’s me, essentially.

There have been various reasons why they haven’t been on since. But I wanted to have them on since then. But unfortunately it just wasn’t possible for various reasons.

 

But I’m a big fan of UK Column. I’ll introduce you this way. A lot of people might have once thought UK Column is a conspiracy based thing. It goes into that sort of territory.

 

And a lot of people have been skeptical of that whole area until the last maybe five years, and then especially the last two years.
