[In this livestream video Mark Collett, leader of the pro-White British nationalist movement, Patriotic Alternative, talks with NSN member Stephen Wells who has been recently released after spending over 3 months in an Australian jail refusing to agree to ridiculous bail conditions imposed after being arrested on Australia Day for trumped up charges of “loitering” and “displaying a Nazi symbol” (all eventually dropped).

Items discussed include:

Stephen Wells was arrested on Australia Day 2025 in Adelaide for participating in a National Socialist Network event.

The event involved singing “Waltzing Matilda” and honouring war dead at a memorial.

Wells was initially charged with loitering, later changed to displaying a Nazi symbol

He refused bail conditions that would restrict his associations and movements

“I knew it had to be me to do that.”-Wells on refusing bail

Wells spent over 3 months in prison, including time in solitary confinement

He maintained a carnivore diet in prison, initially eating only boiled eggs

Wells’ wife was a strong advocate for him while he was imprisoned

“She was both my greatest strength and my greatest weakness”-Wells on his wife

The NSN saw increased recruitment and motivation after Wells’ imprisonment

Wells lost his job within minutes of appearing on TV after his arrest

He plans to sue for compensation but will donate most of any payout

“What you get back will be a hell of a lot more than what they take away from you.”-Wells on standing on principle

Wells is writing a book about his experiences

He was born in England and moved to Australia in 1999

The push-up challenge from November helped motivate Wells in prison

Wells believes putting principles above family is necessary to resist coercion

“It’s through adversity that men grow.”-Wells on the impact on NSN

He compares his sacrifice to historical figures and Christian martyrs

Wells encourages others to stand firm if faced with similar situations

The host Mark Collett praises Wells’ wife as an “unsung hero”

Wells was initially held in a remand centre before being moved to maximum security

He refused to wear prison clothes for the first week

Wells had limited contact with other prisoners, mostly interacting with guards

Wells criticises Australia’s Covid policies and compares them to his situation

He sees his actions as fighting government overreach and preserving rights

He encourages non-compliance as a tactic against government coercion

Wells believes diversity policies will lead to conflict like in Bosnia

He describes prison conditions including food, exercise, and phone access

Wells had a “pivotal phone call” with his wife about staying in prison

He criticises bail conditions as a tactic to silence and restrict activists

Wells compares Australian laws to those in Russia and China

He sees his imprisonment as part of a larger fight for White interests

Wells encourages others to be willing to sacrifice for their principles

He plans to continue activism but return to normal life otherwise

Wells believes most people are unaware of political issues and media coverage

Mark frames Wells’ actions as heroic and inspirational

Wells sees his sacrifice as small compared to historical figures but hopes it inspires others

Mark Collett: Hello everybody and welcome to Patriotic Weekly Review, episode number 315. And we’re live tonight on Odysee, DLive, Rumble and Entropy. And if you’re watching this show, please, please do share it, because this is one of the most important shows I’ve had scheduled in recent times.

And I’ll be introducing my guest very shortly. It’s Stephen Wells from Australia. And we’ll be talking the whole show about his experience in prison, his arrest, the way he was treated by the State, what led up to his arrest. The whole story will be told tonight and you’ll have your chance to answer questions or ask him questions. He’ll have a chance to answer questions from you toward the end of the show because it’s going to be a two hour show as always.

Now, if you like this show and if you think it’s a, you know, something that you want to support, if you like my work, please do consider giving a small donation. $3, $5, $10, whatever you can afford. Usually these shows are seen by thousands of people across multiple platforms and if everyone just gave a few dollars each week, they wouldn’t notice that money going to me. But we would notice that money in a huge way because it would build a powerful and well funded movement for the betterment of our people. So if everyone could chip in, that would be appreciated. If you can’t, that’s understandable.

And if you want to donate more generously, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you in advance.

Now, as ever, if you want to ask a question, please do ask a question and we will answer it in the second half of the show. So any question you attach to a donation and all the donations have to come through Entropy. Now you can do them through Rumble as well, but for most people, they’ll do them through Entropy. Any questions that you ask will be asked to Stephen in the second half of the show. So if there’s anything that isn’t covered for thoroughly in this first half, we’ll answer that in the second half.

Now you can also donate via crypto-currency. All the crypto links are in the description below and you can also write to me at mark@thefallofwesternman.com if you want to donate via other means.

Now all that’s out the way, I’ve got a few things coming up later this week. I’ve got something coming up on Sunday which I’m still working out. I’m live with Dr. David Duke on Friday afternoon. And finally I will be releasing a video on Friday about the situation in Liverpool on Bank Holiday Monday when a car ploughed into the Liverpool Football Club Premier League Winners Parade. Which is very interesting because it illustrates exactly how the establishment and the media treat the perpetrators of crime, depending on their race.

Now that’s all out of the way, let’s get into it and let’s start by welcoming Stephen Wells. Stephen Wells is a man who was a member of the NSN [National Socialist Network] in Australia. He turned up in Adelaide, and Adelaide was an important place because Adelaide had basically scrapped all celebrations of Australia Day. They’d pursued this sort of woke policy of trying to erase Australia Day. And the NSN turned up there, not to do a provocative protest, but simply to stand by the War Memorial and honour their war dead and to basically celebrate Australia Day, which I’m sure most Australians would agree with. And the police were absolutely appalling!

Now, I covered all this several times and I did a review of their side of the story, which was producing a wonderful documentary called Summer Nationals.

And obviously Steven’s plight is something that I’ve talked about on this show. I shared the fundraiser and the fundraiser is linked in the description below. So if you want to give to Stephen and his lovely wife to help them out after all they’ve been through, you can still do that. The fundraiser is still active and obviously they’re still feeling the effects of this.

Now, Stephen has been extremely brave, so is his wife. His wife is his fiercest advocate. I’ve got to know her a little bit over the last weeks and months when I’ve been speaking to her and I found out exactly what they’ve been through.

So I think it’s important to get Stephen on the show tonight so he can tell everything from his perspective. And we’re going to walk you through this from the very beginning, tell you the full story and let you know the sort of the plight of Stephen Wells, but also let you know a little bit about the repression that nationalists face in Australia, which is meant to be a free and Democratic nation.

Anyway, Stephen, it’s great to be joined by you this evening. Obviously, it’s early in the morning for you, so I appreciate the fact that you’re out of bed and you’re up and ready to go. I can understand you might be a little bit tired, but thank you for joining me. How are you feeling, my friend? How do you feel now you’ve been released from prison?

[04:41]

Stephen Wells: Yeah, great! Thank you. And thanks for having me on.

Yeah, I mean, it was kind of surreal the first day I woke up in my own bed. I’ve been talking to Tom [Sewell] just after I was released, and he was telling me about his experience of being in jail, and he was telling me all of these stories of everything seeming surreal. When he got out, to me, it was sort of the opposite. I woke up in bed that first morning and it felt like the past four months had just been a dream. I’d gone to sleep one night and had this dream about going to Adelaide. And four months later I woke up and:

“Oh, it was just a dream!”

It was like one of those tacky soap operas from Dallas where they bring Bobby back, you know, so. [chuckling]

So, yeah, I woke up once I got back feeling just as if everything was finally normal again. Different from my wife. She’s obviously been at home through the entire experience, so she’s having a lot harder problems than I am, just coming down from all of the stress what she went through.

But, yeah, as for myself, I’m feeling pretty good.

Mark Collett: Well, that’s good to hear. And I wasn’t going to get into this first, but I want to say, your wife has been absolutely amazing, and she really fought your corner so hard when you were in jail. And I understand you’re in jail, you were the man, you know, behind bars, you were facing all the things that we’re going to discuss later, but I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that it’s very difficult as well for the people who are left behind. You know, people who are on the outside fighting for the freedom of their loved ones on the inside. It’s difficult for them, too. It’s very difficult for Laura when Sam here in the UK went to prison. But your wife has been absolutely amazing!

I don’t know if you want to say anything about that now before we get into the full story.

Stephen Wells: Yeah, I mean, she went through a lot worse than what I went through. I mean, all I was doing was sitting in the cell waiting around, so it’s not as if I had any agency to do anything, whereas she felt all of the pressure to actually get active every day and to try and fight for me every day. I mean, she was the one who I relied upon to contact people for legal stuff and to get things organised because I couldn’t do anything from the inside.

So I would say it’s actually much harder on the person on the outside than it is on the person on the inside. I had a few issues in the first few weeks, but otherwise I was just basically sitting in a cell. And no different to lying at home lazing around in bed. Obviously not as a comfortable bed. But yeah, I mean she was my rock. You know, I said to people she was both my greatest strength and my greatest weakness whilst I was in there. She was my greatest strength in that she was the one who was fighting hardest for me, and she was the one who I was most thinking of and trying to do things for. But she was also my greatest weakness because she was the one person who worried me. You know, I was worried about her welfare and staying strong when your wife is in tears on the phone to you is very difficult.

Mark Collett: Indeed.

Well, let’s go through the story and we’ll get to the time inside and the contact you had with the outside. So all of this started on Australia Day when you travelled to Adelaide. You flew out there to be part of the NSN’s Memorial Day activity. And it’s clear. Let’s make this clear from the start. This wasn’t a protest. It was an activity. You guys weren’t there to protest. You weren’t actually being provocative. You only had the Australian flags. You were singing Waltzing Matilda.

When you went out there. What kind of feeling did you have as you were going out there? Were you excited? Were you kind of apprehensive? Was it your first event of this kind? How did you feel as you were actually heading out?

Stephen Wells: Yeah, I mean, it’s hard to say exactly what the emotion was. I wasn’t overly excited. I wasn’t overly scared. I was just sort of, okay, this is something we’ve got to do kind of thing. It was the first sort of time that I’d done anything with the NSN. So I actually officially became a member exactly 37 minutes before I was arrested! Before that wasn’t officially a member. So because you don’t become a member of the NSN until you actually go out and do stuff with them. So I’d been part of the wider organisation, the European Australian Movement, which was more of a sort of a men’s group and community group that we sort of build up on the outside. But we don’t actually do any political activism. It’s just more of a case of like, almost like a doomsday prepper organisation, if you like. We just get together and we build a community and we’re just prepared for the next sort of Covid moment when they lock everybody down and you need a bunch of friends around you. So that’s pretty much all the EAM is. Although they try and paint us as this underground terrorist group in waiting.

But you know, we’ve got absolutely no violent aims whatsoever! It’s just literally going camping and fishing and training and stuff.

[10:18]

So when I was there in Adelaide, I mean we had a lot of stuff to try and avoid the police whilst we were trying to get to the War Memorial. We’d all parked in 360 degrees all the way around where we were supposed to be and in separate places it was very organised just because we knew from previous experience or the other guys knew from previous experience just to what lens the police would go to stop us even assembling.

So we were in teams of three. And I had a guy called Ninja who helped produce that documentary that you looked at the other day, who was our team leader, who’d been on a few campaigns before. And you know, we had the black trousers on but the hat and the sunglasses, I think the sunglasses were in my pocket. I had the hat on but had a regular Tshirt on to get there so that we wouldn’t be identified getting to the place going in small groups of three. We just looked like regular Australians on Australia Day. And we all had digital watches on that were synchronised so that we could get there at exactly 11 o’ clock. We were told that don’t be early, don’t be late, get down to the site at 2 minutes to 11 and then change your shirts. And T-shirts were, we’d ordered them in the backpack so when we took them out we knew whose shirt was whose and we wouldn’t be wasting time doing that. So it was, very precise!

And so there was a bit of sort of nerves in terms of that side of things but otherwise, you know, it wasn’t. Yeah, my emotions weren’t really heightened because I wasn’t really expecting anything sort of really outrageous to happen.

And the main reason we were sort of, I had any sort of thought about the police at all was just because the day before we’d done a Fun Run, a 10 kilometer Fun Run and the police had turned up at that and they were patrolling the streets in their cop cars, you know, trying to decipher who was an NSN member and who was a regular jogger. It was quite absurd the lengths they went to.

I mean, six months before the Brisbane Nationals, which I didn’t attend. You know, they turned up to a weightlifting event where there was women and children with submachine guns! And literally tried to raid a weightlifting event because it was the NSN doing it. You know, that’s how paranoid and absolutely nuts the police are in terms of what they think of us.

Mark Collett: So you were already expecting police pushback before you arrived and you kind of knew what you were getting into. But at the time you sort of touched down on the tarmac in Adelaide, you weren’t actually a member. You met up with the guys, you joined up, you were ready, you had your outfit, you had your cap on, your sunglasses and you started heading towards the War Memorial. So I’m guessing at the time you headed down there you were all in pretty good spirits and there was a good feeling of camaraderie in the air. The weather looked fantastic, you guys were singing and everything seemed to have a real energy about it, or from what I saw anyway, from the footage from Summer Nationals.

So at the time you were heading down there, were people expecting arrests or were you expecting to pull off the event, pull off your Memorial Day event and then leave? Was that really what it was about? Did people expect the level of pushback you received?

Stephen Wells: Yes and no. I mean, my wife had a premonition before I went that I was going to be arrested and then, and I kind of was expecting to be arrested. I don’t know why, I can’t say. I know that I’ve been a high profile person for a while anyway, even outside of the NSN. Just some things I’ve written and also through my time during the Covid era.

And I also had this idea in my mind of not compromising when it came to tactics of coercion. So I’d actually said to my mum you know, before I went:

“Yeah, I’m going to Adelaide to get arrested!”

But it was like half joking. In terms of what we actually planned on the day and my thoughts about whether I would be arrested or not, I was more confident that I would be able to have an event without too much incident just due to how well that Tom and the guys had planned it.

The idea was basically to get to the War Memorial, sing Waltzing Matilda, maybe chant a few slogans just so that we could bait the TV cameras into covering us and saying horrible things about us. But mainly it was just to sing Waltzing Matilda. We were told to say to any person we passed on the street to say Happy Australia Day to, regardless of who it was. And the idea was stay there long enough to get the TV cameras to show up, to do their hit pieces on us.

And then as soon as that was achieved, you know, get back, split up, go back to your Airbnbs, and then we’d meet up down the beach and we’d have the rest of the Australia Day down the beach.

So it was really only supposed to be take no more than an hour. And just the meticulous way that everything had been planned from getting there within the exact minute, to code words to break up and run in different directions, to get back to our cars if something went wrong. It had been planned down to the finest detail. So I was starting to feel like, yeah, maybe I would walk away with this without getting in trouble.

And even when it came to being arrested like, I wasn’t planning on doing anything to get me arrested. I had my wife berating Ninja, who, as I said, was a team leader and from the same area and did all the documentaries and stuff. She had berated him, basically saying:

“Look after him make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid, make sure he keeps his temper under control!”

So, yeah, I was feeling reasonably confident that it would come off without too much incident, but it wasn’t to be.

[17:09]

Mark Collett: So you get there, you begin the activity, you’re around the memorial, you’ve been very polite to people, you’ve said, happy Australia Day, you’re singing Walsing Matilda. And the police then initially seem to come in, sort of female officers on bikes, etc. But I saw in the video, it wasn’t long before the police presence increased dramatically and a lot more male officers arrived who were obviously going to be far more able to break things up and to arrest people. At which point did you get arrested? Were you one of the people arrested at the War Memorial or were you one of the people arrested as you walked away?

Stephen Wells: So I was arrested about 35 minutes after the assembly first started.

So 30 seconds before I arrived, the first people were at the War Memorial. I’ve seen later, I didn’t know it at the time, but within seconds of the first people arriving, there were police telling them to get off the War Memorial, and:

“Get off the War Memorial, you’re loitering!”

So they had the loitering thing in their head right from the beginning. I didn’t hear that command because I was sort of walking towards it. So I arrived within about 30 seconds of the first people arriving. The rest of the group had arrived within another 30 seconds. And then we all started singing Waltzing Matilda.

So we went through about two renditions of Waltzing Matilda. Then Tom arrived himself. And as Tom arrived already, there was 50, 60 plus police already in the area.

I mean, the resources they must have used, be able to get that many police to our specific location that quickly must have been absolutely enormous, what they must have spent on that! And then one police officer shouted out:

“You need to leave here! Now!”

You know, that’s the only, that’s the only command I heard first. And then Tom said:

“We are being persecuted for just simply celebrating Australia Day. We are., ..!”

That was about as far as he got. And they arrested him and they arrested two others. One guy was thrown to the ground already at that point. So he didn’t even give us time to leave. It was just like Tom got like two words out of his mouth and then they arrested him and two others. So Joel immediately took over as soon as Tom was grabbed and says:

“Move out!”

And so we all followed Joel and we basically marched off down the street and got into formation as quickly as we could. So the, so the rest of us couldn’t be dragged off the street right there and then.

We then walked for about 10 minutes down the street at a high pace, singing Waltzing Matilda, 38 degree day, Black Shirt, black trousers. I’d done a 10k run for the first time the day before and I was absolutely knackered. Forgot to bring water with me. [chuckling] And we ended up at another memorial. And Joel stopped there and he made a speech, or started making a speech. I think he also got about two, three minutes into a speech.

And then the police were sort of following us and the first police were sort of following us at our pace.

And by the time Joel was halfway through his speech, the fat piggies had managed to sort of catch up with us. You know, they were puffing and trying to work off their donuts from the night before. And then police horses started to arrive. They weren’t, they probably weren’t Shire horses, but they looked big enough, you know, 18 hands plus, they were big bloody horses! And that looked a bit precarious. So Joel moved us out again. We didn’t wait for a move on order this time. We just moved, started marching again.

The street curved around to the Left. And then we crossed over the road and took another, right turn, walked up the street again, singing and walking. And in front of us then there was a roadblock of just physical bodies of police. A few dozen and another few more horses were right in front of us.

And they shouted the second order that I heard that day, which was:

“You can’t come this way!”

And Joel thinking on his feet was just like:

“No problem! We’ll turn around then!”

And shouted back at them. And we all just turned around and went back in the other direction.

So we went back the way we came to where the second War Memorial was at the start of some kind of park. We went back there and then we crossed over the road and went into the park. So we were all crossing into the park and by this point there’s just, there was hundreds and hundreds of police by this point! And they were in front of us, they were at the side of us, they were behind us.

And then the final order I heard was:

“Halt!”

And so Joel then decided that this is just not going to happen. And he shouted out a code word for us all to split up. Once we heard that word halt. And everybody just broke for it. I’ve got about two steps and a policeman grabbed me and I was arrested and that was it.

Mark Collett: So basically what you’re saying is Stephen, this entire nightmare would have been mitigated had you not done the 10k run the day earlier and you’d have been swiftly footed. So has your wife banned, ..? I wish you could get the wife out now so we could ask her, has she banned all forms of cardio the day before any future protests?

[23:06]

Stephen Wells: [chuckling] No, she’s actually getting me doing cardio again. Probably thinking, fitter next time, I think! Because I’d only managed to do seven and a half K of actual running of that 10K run, the day before. I’d had a bad knee. I’ll give my excuses now. I had a bad knee for most of the previous year, so I’d hardly done any cardio before going into it. I think I’d done like a 2, 2k runs along the beach before we’d done that event.

And so when I was actually pretty happy with myself doing the 7 1/2 K of the 10.

But then we had to, even for that, we had to walk for 40 minutes to get to the event and have to walk 40 minutes back and there was two and a half K of like crawling and walking and stuff. So I was pretty knackered.

But I don’t think it would have helped too much. As I said, I got literally two steps and I was grabbed and another, you know, dozen of the guys were grabbed.

As I said, they were literally all around us. And being one of the oldest in the group. Yeah, running, running wasn’t really the main thing for me, so especially not like high speed sprinting that was required to get away from them. So, yeah, I don’t think there was much hope of me getting away.

Mark Collett: Well, you obviously you were caught. [chuckling]

I mean, that leads us to the next, next, the next part of the story. So what ended up happening is obviously you were caught, they grabbed hold of you, and once they grabbed hold of you were presumably arrested and taken to the police station. But tell us what happened when they grabbed hold of you, how the arrest went and what went on between the time of the arrest and the time of you getting to the police station.

Stephen Wells: Yeah, so I’d, I’d done a fair bit of training during the Covid years of like, how to react if a policeman arrests you.

So I just immediately stood still, blurted out that:

“I wasn’t going to resist arrest. I will be compliant. Please don’t hurt me!”

I think with the first words out of my mouth, I wanted that loud and clear to make sure that I didn’t get brutalised. That’s something I trained for back in the Covid era when they were arresting everyone for wearing, not wearing a mask or whatever.

So I just stood still.

And then another female officer came and wanted to put cuffs on me. I made the mistake of putting my hands behind my back instead of in front of me. I should have asked. I should have. That was probably my biggest mistake of the day was putting my hands behind my back and allowing myself to be handcuffed with my hands behind my back. That really came back on me later. And then I just said:

“Oh, you know what, can we go and stand in the shade under the tree here?”

And they’re like:

“Yeah, okay, yeah.”

And so they were quite okay with that. And then I said:

“Do you mind if I ask what the charge is?”

And she says:

“Loitering!”

I went:

“Loitering? Don’t you have to be staying in one place to be loitering?”

She says:

“Well, you weren’t obeying our orders!”

I went:

“Okay.”

And so I thought:

“Well, there’s no point arguing with police.”

If police are going to arrest you, they’re going to arrest you. Like a lot of people make the mistake of arguing with police when they’re doing that sort of stuff. It’s really pointless. All it does is agitate them and give a risk to you of being beaten up.

So first advice to anybody is if ever the police arrest you, just let them arrest you, sort it out later. Until we get to sort of Soviet Union standards where you have the Solzhenitsyn* idea that once you’ve been arrested, you’re already dead.

[* Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident who helped to raise global awareness of political repression in the Soviet Union, especially the Gulag prison system. He was awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize in Literature “for the ethical force with which he has pursued the indispensable traditions of Russian literature”. His non-fiction work The Gulag Archipelago “amounted to a head-on challenge to the Soviet state” and sold tens of millions of copies. Wikipedia]

So that’s another matter. But we’re not quite there yet. So, yeah, if anybody arrests you just stand still and let them do it.

So I was quite compliant, I was quite relaxed. I was arrested but not taken to prison for not wearing a mask about three years before. And so I was quite chill about it. I just thought:

“Okay, well, they’ll take us away and they’ll go through the process and I’ll get bail and whatever else.”

So I was quite relaxed. Stood there for about three or four minutes or five minutes maybe, waiting for the van to organise everything. And eventually they took me over to the police van. It was a big sort of Ford Transit type van, or a Mercedes van, you know, big van. And they bundled me into the side. And as I was being bundled in, somebody, I don’t know if it was a journalist, or a member of the public, you know, said:

“What are you being arrested for?”

I went:

“Loitering apparently!”

And then the police shoved me in and slammed the door.

So I was in the side door. The van had sort of like a special compartment that was obviously made to order. So it was very shallow in terms of depth. There’s just enough space to put my arse cheeks on the metal seat, but no space for my legs. My knees were almost hard up against the side of the van and my hands are behind my back. So I’m sort of sitting in here. It’s a bit uncomfortable, but the beginning is not too bad. Took about 20 minutes to get to the police station, I think. It felt like a lot longer. And I could hear the other guys in the van, they were all still singing and going through the Nationalist Songbook. So I joined in with them and we were singing to each other from different parts of the van that we were all separated from each other for.
