This “Transcripts Matter Project” is about producing transcripts of video or audio material that is beneficial to Whites, into the long-lasting format of the written word.

 

 

Why Transcripts?

top

 

Sometimes, people ask if creating a transcript is really necessary (considering all the work involved) when you can just listen/watch the audio/video.

Here are some of the advantages of a transcript:

* Most people can read 2 to 3 times faster than most people speak.

* Some speakers, with strong accents or idiosyncratic speech habits, are often difficult to follow.

* You can easily scan the text and zoom into what interests you in a non-linear manner.

* You can easily quote verbatim from the text when discussing it.

* You can print out a hard copy to store or share with others.

* When you listen to a long audio or video it’s easy to forget many of the points made, etc. Having it in writing allows you to refresh your memory quickly and accurately.

* Transcripts make it easier to create accurate translations which can in turn be used to create video and audio versions.

* Video and audio files often become unavailable due to censorship (on YouTube, etc.) or technical causes due to lack of equipment, bandwidth, or power.

* Video and audio files are far larger than a text file. In many cases presenting the information in video or audio format has no worthwhile advantage over a text file.

* Other?

That all said, a transcript is often no substitute for an audio/video file and vice-versa. The formats are complimentary to each other.

To make it easier to listen to a video or audio file and type the transcript, controlling the speed of the recording is very useful.

At the simplest, use the speed controller in YouTube or BitChute to slow down or speed up playback.

Better yet, is to use dedicated software like Express Scribe (which I use) when you have downloaded the video/audio file. This allows:

Variable speed playback (constant pitch).
Supports audio and video playback.
Use ‘hotkeys’ for mouse-free playback.
Works with a foot pedal (for example the Infinity pedal).

There is a free version available that plays mp3 audio format files, but NOT  mp4 video format files.

 

Also, headphones make it easier to hear more accurately, which makes a difference with speakers who have strong accents and/or don’t speak clearly, or there is background noise.
